Teacher Webpage

First, I looked into my town's school website; I was unable to find a teacher webpage from amongst all the schools in my town. So I continued searching and I found it difficult to find a teacher webpage. Finally, I came across one in the District Factor Group F, which Professor Bigsby mentioned is the more affluent schools. The District I chose was Ridgewood Public Schools. The school chose to use to find a teacher webpage was Benjamin Franklin Middle School.
The teacher webpage that I chose was from a math teacher. I think that the webpage is effective in communicating with students because on the right side there is a column entitled "Class Link" that allows the student to visit different sites to further practice their math skills in a fun way. The webpage also has the homework assignments just in case a student is absent from school or forgot to write down the homework, they can just check on the teacher webpage. I also thought that the "Class Files" are beneficial to students because it has the vocabulary for students to refer back to when doing their homework. Or to go back to, to study for test or quiz.
In addition, the webpage is also effective in communicating with parents because under the section "Class Announcements" it talks about math enrichment courses which students may have a say in but will ultimately depend on their current progress in math to see what class they will take next. It also addresses a parent letter for parents to read and know what their child is currently learning and what they will be learning.

Why I decided to teach?

I decided to go into teaching because I am a people person and I like to help others. I believe, that a teacher should have interpersonal skills and the willingness to assist others. I enjoy working with all types people especially young children. I can remember that when I was young, I used to pretend to teach my brother and the other kids my grandma used to baby-sit. I liked playing the role of teacher and giving the kids something to do. I chose art as the subject I would like to teach because I love creating and making art. I have always excelled in my art classes ever since I was in elementary school. I also feel that art comes naturally to me and it something I enjoy doing.

Technology Background/ Course Expectations

Respond by describing your technology background and feelings about technology. In addition, describe what your expectations for this course are.

I try to keep up with technology as it is continuously changing every day. Once I learn something new, a few weeks later it seems to be outdated already. I am not very technology savvy to begin with, but I feel that technology will benefit me in my profession as a teacher to network with other teachers. When I am having technological difficulties, I usually try to figure things out on my own first. Then when I start to get frustrated I have to ask someone for assistance. Growing up with technology I think has changed the way I learn in school because of the internet access that is readily available to us.

I like learning new things about technology because it can sometimes make life easier such as wanting to send someone a message right away through instant messaging or through a text message rather than waiting for a letter in the mail. However, technology can also have its downsides because the use of the internet may not always be as accurate as researching information from a book. I believe our society has become depended on technology and can effect us if there was ever a power outage.

I am glad that MSU offers this course as part of the teaching curriculum because it will help me to learn how to integrate technology into the classroom. I expect to learn how to use the different websites that we will being using for this course. I will probably e-mail classmates or Professor Bigsby if I get confused about what we have to do.

About Me

Hi everyone. My name is Martha Garcia. I am a junior at Montclair State University. My major is art education with a concentration in painting. I am very excited to become an art teacher because I want to show students what they can discover through aesthetic means. I love to travel and see firsthand what brings people to that particular destination. I enjoy scrap-booking the photographs and memorabilia from my travels. I also like to try different dishes of food from other cultures. Lastly, I have one younger brother who attends the University of Pennsylvania.
